Our German Marketing Executive used to be in a punk rock band, has worked with dead body parts and would love a 10 day week. We caught up with 43-year-old Silke Felgate-Schmid to chat about super powers, life advice and a little bit of bubbly.
Tell us a little bit about your life so far…
I don’t know where to start! I was born and grew up in Germany and travelled a lot, mainly to the USA. I’ve been involved in the music scene in Germany, the UK & the USA and I pursued a career in Tourism followed by Events and Conference Management. That was all before I became a mum – I have two wonderful little active boys.
Did you always want to pursue a career in this field?
No, I got into Marketing a few years ago.
What’s your favourite and most challenging part of the job?
My favourite parts are the shoes, treats and great colleagues. The challenging part is not always getting my own way and keeping everyone happy.
How do you get creative when trying to think of new ideas?
I try to put myself in the customers’ shoes – I always think about what I expect from others and what gets my attention.
If you could describe yourself as a shoe, what would it be and why?
Boots. There are so many types, styles and looks – a bit like me. Or flip flops because there must always be some time for that sea, sand and surf feeling. They bring out the sun in everyone.
Describe your style in three words?
Just my own.
Where is your OOTD (outfit of the day) from?
Jeans – Boutique in LA
Top – Camden in London
Shoes – SOLETRADER – Michael Kors
Wedding ring – Husband
Tell us a quirky/interesting fact about yourself…
I used to play bass guitar in a punk rock band in Germany a long time ago. Also, one of my previous jobs not so long ago involved dead human body parts.
Who’s the most famous person you’ve met?
I’m not sure, probably Slash and Dizzy from Guns N’ Roses, Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters and H.R. Giger.
What’s your favourite way to relax after a stressful day?
Spending some time in a sauna followed by chilling at home with some bubbly, or going out with friends for some more.
How do you spend your spare time?
Going mad with my kids – it’s never boring. I always thought I used to have a busy social life but now I need a 10 day week and a 35 hour day.
If you could be one celebrity for the day, who would you pick and why?
Albert Einstein so I could fully understand the Theory of Relativity and everything that is connected to it.
You can pick one superpower, which one do you choose?
I’d create more time.
Who/what inspires you?
People who stay calm and have a happy and positive attitude.
What’s your favourite piece of advice/quote?
Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you will look back and realise they were the big things.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
A good old single malt.
If you could invite three people to a dinner party, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
I couldn’t limit it to three. I would invite some good friends to catch up and probably Richard Branson. He might just be persuaded to give us a ride into space and back.
